NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY for DANCE ARTS (NHSDA)

Dancers will be recognized and inducted as Dance Scholars in NHSDA:  The induction ceremony will take place, Friday, February 21, 7:00 pm at the Community Campus, Hailey.

Recognizing: Outstanding artistic merit, leadership and academic achievements in students studying dance at the High School level. The National Dance Honor Society is part of the National Dance Educators Organization and is an approved student program from the Secondary School’s Principals (NASSP).  The WRHS chapter is one of over 300 chapters across the United States that supports excellence in the dance arts, academic achievement and leadership. Our WRHS faculty advisor is Angie Telford with Hilarie Neely, Director FDC, administering the program with 21 members from Footlight Dance Centre participating in this chapter.

Dancing is a year round artistic endeavor and passion for those working towards their NHSDA induction.  Dancers must maintain a solid GPA on top of the dance core work.  The requirements to be inducted and thus obtain the honor that can be recognized on transcripts are rigorous, so on the average it takes 2 or more years of study at the high school level before a dancer can be honored as a Dance Scholar. Dancers also take master classes with guest teachers throughout the year, attend summer workshops (sometimes out of state) to broaden their understanding of dance, community service to promote dance, assist young dancers in weekly classes, and some dancers pursue school projects exploring dance with choreography.

Our Annual performance for our students ages 5 – 18, “ALICE IN DANCERLAND”, will take place with limited seating for our three performances, May 2-3-4, 2025 at the Community Campus Theater in Hailey.  Tickets $10.00 each, available by student OR at the front desk of the Community Campus, Mon-Friday 8:30am – 4:00 pm,  also starting April 14 at Iconoclast Books in Hailey, Independent Goods or Hank & Sylvie’s in Ketchum or at the door. Getting tickets before the show is highly recommended.

Friday, Saturday show start is 7:00 pm.  Sunday show is 2:00 pm.

Footlight Dance will also have the show filmed with 3 casts:  posted on our Vimeo site after editing in June, 2025.
